USA Weekend By Jorge Cruise Studies have shown that interval exercise is more effective at reducing body fat -- especially belly fat -- than steady-state exercise. Interval exercise is when you alternate the level of intensity during an activity. One of the best exercises to incorporate intervals into is walking. "With intervals, you get more with less time," says Arthur Agatston, M.D., author of "The South Beach Diet Supercharged." "Plus, it's more fun than being in a steady state, and it makes the time go by faster." Try this: After a warm-up walk, increase to a moderate pace for 15 seconds, then slow down to easy for 60 seconds. Repeat six times; end with a two-minute cool-down.
